Graduate Study and Research in Poland Scholarship

Program Description
This scholarship supports graduate level research at universities in Poland by American graduate students and university faculty members with funding from the Polish Ministry of Education and Sports and the Kosciuszko Foundation. Research projects may be conducted from October 2008 through June 2009 at Polish universities and institutions which fall under the jurisdiction of the Polish Ministry of Education and Sports. The scholarship provides a stipend for dormitory housing and living expenses . Transportation to and from Poland is not included. This scholarship does not include tuition to attend classes at Polish universities.

Eligibility
US citizens and Polish citizens with permanent residency status in the US who are graduate level students and who possess proficiency in the Polish language.  University faculty members may also apply.

Selection Criteria
Selection is based on academic excellence, motivation and need to pursue research in Poland, and a clear and a well-defined research proposal. The host institution must fall under the jurisdiction of the Polish Ministry of Education and Sports.

Application Procedure

  • Applications forms are available from October through December 30.
  • Deadline is on or before Tuesday, January 15, 2008.
    Kosciuszko Foundation's application instructions are slightly different than the instructions on the application form. Follow all directions listed here.
  • Submit a non-refundable application fee of $50 and all supporting materials to the Kosciuszko Foundation, 15 East 65th Street, New York, NY 10065. Please note our new zip code. Submit all documents in one complete packet on or before the deadline date.
  • Complete the Polish Ministry of National Education application entitled Bureau for Academic Recognition and International Exchange. The application appears in four languages. Use the English portion of the application and respond in English. Submit two copies of the application. Type or print your full name on each page of the application.
  • Regarding question #22: Provide an abstract of your project proposal. Also, include a detailed research proposal. Maximum number of pages for the proposal: 10. Include your name, "KF Studies & Research Program" and a page number in the upper right hand corner of each page. Submit two copies of the abstract and research proposal.
  • Attach copies of university level transcripts inclusive of Summer 2007.
  • Attach copies of study certificates such as your level of language proficiency.
  • Attach copies of undergraduate and graduate diplomas.
  • Attach 2 letters of recommendation from professors. Recommendation letters should be in sealed envelopes and signed across the seal of the envelope.
  • Attach a letter of invitation from the University/Institute in Poland where research is to be conducted. The feasibility of the research project, the research period, access to materials, libraries, archives, etc. and other conditions concerning your research project should be addressed in the letter. Retain a copy of the invitation letter as it will be needed for future use.
  • Attach 2 passport-size photos with your name printed on the reverse. Photos are used for publication purposes.

Scholarship Results: All applicants are notified in writing in June 2008.
