Summer Studies Abroad

Catholic University of Lublin
Two-, three-, four-, and five-week courses are available beginning in mid-July and early August. Class size is limited to 10 students affording each student personalized attention. Applicants may register for classes that range from 5 to 8 hours of language instruction daily. The following levels of intensity are available: non-intensive, intensive and highly intensive classes. Language classes are held Monday through Friday. A lecture on Polish history, culture or art is featured daily. Non-intensive classes meet 9:00 am to 1:30 p.m. (25 hours weekly); intensive classes meet from 9:00 am to 1:30 p.m. and from 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. (33 hours weekly); highly intensive classes meet 9:00 am to 1:30 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. (37 hours weekly). In the Polish academic system 1 academic hour = 45 minutes.

PL represents non-intensive classes; PLI represents intensive classes; PLH represents highly intensive classes. The PLH course includes four hours per week of one-on-one tutorials in which the student chooses the focus of the lesson.

The following chart includes the arrival and return dates for each program and the program fees for each intensity level. Program fees include a shared room, 3 meals a day, course materials and plays, concerts and sightseeing trips listed below.

August courses:
Lublin's Old Town on August 2 (all courses)

These sightseeing tours are included in the program fees quoted above.

Optional sightseeing:
Tour of Krakow on July 18-20, $200;
Tour of Bialowierza Forest on August 8-10, $200.

When planning your program in Lublin be sure to pay careful attention to the retun date of your chosen course and the dates of any above sightseeing trip which you may be interested in and make adjustments to your return flights as needed. Housing:
Included in the program fees, students live in double rooms at the "Dom Studencki KUL" dormitory, ul. Konstantynow #1, a short bus ride from classrooms. Bathrooms are shared.  
Single rooms are available at the dormitory and the univeristy "Hotel". The hotel is next to the university building and the number of "hotel" rooms is limited. Early reservation/application is advisable. Students who request a dormitory or hotel single room and sign up for optional trips should contact the Summer Sessons offiice - phone number above.  

To apply for Credit:
Print the a copy of this page, a Credit Approval Form (found with application materials) and submit to your academic advisor for approval. Send the completed Credit Approval Form to the Kosciuszko Foundation by May 30th. Students applying for credit must attend classes and pass final exams. Please note that one academic hour equals 45 minutes.

Programs Fees Include:
Tuition, a shared room, all meals and sightseeing trips of Lublin’s Old Town and Kazimierz, course materials, plays and concerts. Airfare, optional trips and single rooms are NOT included in the program fees.

Indicate your program  choice of 2, 3, 4 or 5 weeks next to the JULY or AUGUST option. Circle PL, PLI and PLH for the level of intensity. List double, dorm single or hotel single under accommodations as per your preference. If you would like to share a room with a friend who is applying for the same program as you, please indicate the name of the person with whom you'd like to share a room. Follow additional instructions on the application form.

Additional information:
A University bus is available at F. Chopin/Okecie Airport in Warsaw through early afternoon on Sunday, July 6 and on July 27. Provide us with your flight information to reserve a seat on the bus. Bus service is not provided at the close of programs, however, the Summer School has information on various bus and train services. Information is available on request in Poland.
