Director of Cultural Affairs Azure Ensemble Their program includes the New York premiere of "Un Grand Sommeil Noir ..." for soprano, flute and harp, by Marta Ptaszynska, one of Poland's leading composers. The lush "Sonata for Flute, Viola, and Harp, " of Claude Debussy, is another highlight of the concert. Other composers included are Marilyn Bliss, Maurice Durufle, and Virginia-based composer Judith Shatin, featured in a recent BAM Next Wave Festival. The concert will be recorded for broadcast on WQXR-FM 96.3 on Sunday, April 24; that broadcast is made possible by Cynthia and Thomas Rosicki, of Rosicki, Rosicki, and Associates, PC, Attorneys at Law. Tickets are $25 ($20 for KF members) and can be reserved by calling the Foundation Office at 212.734.2130. Members of the Azure Ensemble for this concert are Susan Glaser, Flute and Artistic Director; Karen Ritscher, Viola and Artistic Director; June Han, Harp; Jeffrey Cohen, Piano; and Gayla Blaisdell, Soprano. The Azure Ensemble is one of New York City's most exciting new chamber music groups. Varied and notable repertoire is a hallmark of the ensemble, which draws its members from the finest musicians in New York City; a diverse instrumentation allows the performance of both traditional and new repertoire that may not always fit neatly into standardized categories. Original programming is a hallmark of The Azure Ensemble;
the group has commissioned and premiered numerous works by important
contemporary composers, including Yuriko Kojima, Pablo Ortiz, Anne LeBaron,
Alan Shockley, Alice Shields, Yoon Hee Hwang, Amanda Harberg, Jeeyoung
Kim, Marilyn Bliss, and Stella Sung. All events take place at the Foundation House, unless otherwise noted. Programs subject to change. Click here for directions.
