Director of Cultural Affairs Thaddeus Brys, cello with Susan Brys on Piano Cellist Thaddeus Brysis featured in concert on Thursday, May 19 at 8 o'clock at the Kosciuszko Foundation. Pianist Susan Bryswill accompany the program, which includes music of Cassado, Reger, and Poulenc. Tickets, which include a reception with the artists, are $25 ($10 for KF members) and can be reserved by calling the Foundation Office at (212) 734-2130. A native New Yorker, Thaddeus Brys taught cello and chamber music at Louisiana State University, and is now active as soloist and chamber music collaborator. He has appeared as soloist with the Little Orchestra Society of New York and many orchestras in the South. He has also toured as a chamber player for Columbia Concerts throughout the United States, Canada, and Mexico and recorded with the Vivaldi Society. Brys received his training at the Mannes College of Music and The Juilliard School, and has coached with Pablo Casals in France and Vermont. Critics have praised his "mellifluous, expansive tone .... impeccable musicianship" (London Telegraph); his ability as a "sensitive artist of refreshing musical maturity" (New York Times); and have called him "a real lyric individualist" (Algemeen Dagblad, Amsterdam). Susan Brys, a student of Arthur Balsam, has toured as an accompanist and chamber musician throughout the United States and Europe, and is a former member of the Baton Rouge Symphony. An Amsterdam critic, writing for Het Parool, praised her "feeling for airy, delicate lyricism," and in Berlin, Der Tagesspiel commended her " ... very superior, absolutely clear playing of great color."
