Graduate Study and Research in Poland Scholarship

Program Description

This scholarship supports graduate level research at universities in Poland by American graduate students and university faculty members with funding from the Polish Ministry of Education and Sports and the Kosciuszko Foundation. Research projects may be conducted from October 2011 through June 2012 at Polish universities and institutions which fall under the jurisdiction of the Polish Ministry of Education and Sports. The scholarship provides a stipend for dormitory housing and living expenses .

Transportation to and from Poland is not included. This scholarship does not include tuition to attend classes at Polish universities.

Eligibility

Graduate level students and university faculty members who are US citizens may apply.  Polish citizens are not eligible.

Selection Criteria

Selection is based on academic excellence, motivation and need to pursue research in Poland, and a clear and a well-defined research proposal. The host institution must fall under the jurisdiction of the Polish Ministry of Education and Sports.

Application Procedure

Applications forms for academic year 2011-2012 will be available here from September 2010 through January 4.

Kosciuszko Foundation's application instructions are slightly different than the instructions on the application form. Follow all directions listed here.

  • Submit a non-refundable application fee of $50 and all supporting materials to the Kosciuszko Foundation, 15 East 65th Street, New York, NY 10065. Submit all documents in one complete packet.
  • Complete the KF Checklist and the application entitled Bureau for Academic Recognition and International Exchange. The application appears in four languages. Use the English portion of the application and respond in English. Submit two copies of the application. Type or print your full name on each page of the application.
  • In question 11 list your current address. If your current address is expected to change before June 1, 2011 include an alternate address where we may contact you after June 1st.
  • Regarding question 22: Provide an abstract of your project proposal. Also, include a detailed research proposal. Maximum number of pages for the proposal: 10. Include your name, "KF Studies & Research Program" and a page number in the upper right hand corner of each page. Submit two copies of the abstract and research proposal.
  • Attach official transcripts (university level)  inclusive of Summer 2010.
  • Attach copies of study certificates such as your level of language proficiency.
  • Attach copies of undergraduate and graduate diplomas.
  • Attach 2 letters of recommendation from professors. Recommendation letters should be in sealed envelopes and signed across the seal of the envelope.
  • Attach a letter of invitation from the University/Institute in Poland where research is to be conducted. The letter should address the feasibility of the research project, the start and end dates of your research period and should address the university's agreement to provide access to materials, libraries, archives, and any other conditions or limitations concerning your research project. Retain a copy of the invitation letter as it will be needed for future use.
  • Attach 2 passport-size photos with your name printed on the reverse. Xeroxed photos are not accepted.

E-mailed and faxed materials will not be considered.

APPLICATION DEADLINE
We recommend that your application packet be postmarked by Janury 3.
