Tomaszkiewicz-Florio Scholarships

Each year the Kosciuszko Foundation offers a number of scholarships to American students of Polish descent to take part in Summer Study programs in Polish language with the Jagiellonian University in Krakow.  

The scholarship covers  program fees for Session A, a 4-week program; Session B, a 2-week program or Session A+B, a 6-week program.  Program fees include:  tuition, a Polish language e-textbook, as well as integration courses and a cultural program.  The Kosciuszko Foundation pays program fees directly to the Jagiellonian University on behalf of Tomaszkiewicz-Florio Scholarship winners.  Scholarship recipients are responsible for payment of the $75 registration fee.   


The following categories of applicants are eligible to apply for Tomaszkiewicz-Florio Scholarships: 

  • high school seniors who are 18 by the first day of the program
  • undergraduate freshmen, sophomores, juniors and seniors
  • American citizens of Polish descent 
  • legal permanent residents of Polish descent (green card holders)
  • minimum GPA of 3.0 or better

How To Apply for a Tomaszkiewicz-Florio Scholarship

Students who wish to apply for a scholarship must complete the KF Summer Study application form and submit the following supporting documents:

  • 2020 Financial Information Form  - please save your file as "TF20-Last name-First name-FIF"
  •  Photo (headshot),  submit a hard copy photo with your name printed on the reverse side or an e-mailed electronic photo saved as "TF2020-Last name-First name-photo"  .pdf, .jpg and .jpeg files are accepted.
  • Official  transcripts for the past three years inclusive of the most recent Fall semester, in hard copy format or sent via an on-line services  such as Parchment, E-Scrip-Safe, or  Credential Solutions. 
  • Two letters of recommendation from teachers or professors focused on academic ability.  Letters must be written on school or university letterhead - please ask teachers to save files as "TF2020-Student's Last name-First name-LOR-Prof's Last name"   An optional third letter can be submitted from organizations/clubs in which you are active, or for which you volunteer, etc.  
  • An Essay/Statement of Purpose.  The essay/statement of purpose will be two pages, double spaced, printed on one side of the page only.  The statement/essay must include your full name, TF2020 and a page number on each page of the essay.  Please save your file as "TF2020-Last name-First name-essay" .doc, .pdf and .docx files are accepted. 
  • $35 non-refundable scholarship application fee - check or money order made payable to the Kosciuszko Foundation and sent to Kosciuszko Foundation headquarters in NYC.  

1 - If there is a KF Chapter in the area where you attend high school or college, submit a .pdf of your on-line application form and your supporting materials to your local KF Chapter.

  • Chicago, IL -  area includes MI, IL and IN
  • New England - area includes CT, ME, MA, NH, RI, VT 
  • Ohio - accepting applications from OH
  • Philadelphia,PA - area includes DE, eastern PA, Southern NJ
  • Pittsburgh, PA - area includes western PA, WV
  • Houston, TX - area includes AR, LA, OK, TX
  • Washington, DC - area includes DC area, MD, VA
  • Buffalo, NY - Rochester and western NY, Buffalo area

Kosciuszko Foundation utilizes its local Chapters to administer the Tomaszkiewicz-Florio Scholarships.  KF Chapters review scholarship applications and supporting materials of the candidates who attend schools and universities in their local jurisdictions.  The Chapter review committees submit all application and supporting materials together with their recommendations to the KF office in NY where final decisions are made.

Please note:

The on-line application form must be completed in one session  - the computer program will not allow you to save your answers and continue later .  It is suggested that you apply on-line and then e-mail mandatory supporting materials together in one batch.  Please use your school's / university's address to determine where/to whom you should send your materials. 

If you are eligible for any other KF scholarship for summer studies abroad, apply only once.  Your application will be considered for KF's other summer scholarships as well. 


Scholarship Decisions

Applicants will be informed of scholarship decisions by the Summer Study Abroad Office in NYC.  Results will be sent via e-mail by mid-to-late May.

Scholarship recipients will be required to submit a two page report to the Kosciuszko Foundation after the program is completed. 

Students who are not chosen to receive a scholarship may attend the program as paying students by notifying the KF Summer Sessions Office of their intention and by sending registration fees and program fees.

Payment of program fees will be due 2 weeks after scholarship decisions are made or by May 22nd, whichever is later.

  • KF Code of Conduct Form - all programs
  • RODO Data Processing Form - JU applicants only
  • Accommodation Form - not applicable in 2020
  • Proof of Medical Insurance Coverage - not applicable in 2020
  • Copy the first two page of your Passport - not applicable in 2020
