Graduate Study and Research in Poland Scholarship

Program Description 

The Graduate / Postgraduate Studies and Research Scholarship supports research by American graduate students and university faculty members at various universities in Poland.  Scholarships are awarded under the auspices of the Foundation's Exchange Program with the Polish Ministry of Science and Higher Education.  The Polish Ministry provides a stipend of 1,350 zloty per month for housing and living expenses. In addition, the Kosciuszko Foundation awards $300 per month of approved study/research as a supplement to awards provided by the Ministry. 

The Studies and Research Scholarship does not include tuition to attend classes.  Candidates whose plans include attending classes must apply for admission, request a tuition waiver and submit confirmation of release from payment of tuition signed by the appropriate faculty/department chairperson.  The Studies & Research scholarship does not cover airfare.

Research projects may be conducted from October through June at state-funded universities and institutions in Poland.

Eligibility

Graduate level students and university faculty members who are US citizens may apply.  Polish citizens are not eligible.

Selection Criteria

Selection is based on academic excellence, motivation, the need to pursue research in Poland.

Application Procedure

The application posted for the Graduate / Postgraduate Studies & Research in Poland Scholarship is used by the Polish Ministry to administer a variety of programs/scholarships.  Read and follow the guidelines and instructions posted here.

I – Prepare the following supporting materials before applying on-line:

Application - PART III - Research Plans in Poland

Question #18 - a list of practical and professional work experiences during or after college/university studies. Include your name, "Studies & Research 2018/19" and "Question #18" in the upper right hand corner of the page.

Question #21 – provide an Abstract of your study/research project in Poland.  Include your name and "Studies & Research-2018/2019" in the upper right hand corner of the page. 

Application - PART IV - Attach the Following Documents to Complete the Application Form.

  1. Item A – is not applicable to the Graduate Studies & Research program.
  2. Item B – copies of certificates/diplomas. Save to a file and upload to the on-line application.  
  3. Item C - send hard copy transcripts of studies (3 years of academic work) to the Kosciuszko Foundation via USPS.
  4. Item D – request letters of recommendation from two professors you have studied with in the US. Letters should be written on university letterhead and sent by professors to the Kosciuszko Foundation via USPS or via e-mail to Addy@thekf.org.
  5. Item E –letter of invitation/acceptance from the university admission office or host professor/department.  The letter of invitation must include 1) the feasibility of your research plans at the host institution; 2) the start and end dates of the research period and; 3) the extent and limitation of the host university's support during your stay (access to dormitory housing, office space, libraries, labs, studios, etc.).  If your plans include attending classes, you must apply for admission, request and submit a tuition waiver signed by the appropriate faculty or department chairperson. Save to a file and upload to the on-line application. 
  6. Item F – your research proposal.  Your proposal will be a maximum of  five pages, double-spaced and will include your name, "Studies & Research 2018/2019" and page number in the upper right hand corner of each page. Save to a file and upload to the on-line application.
  7.  Item G – a photo of yourself, which is suitable for publication. Save to a file and upload to the on-line application.

II - Use the following file naming conventions when saving files for upload to the on-line application form:

  1. Question #18 - <SR-19-Last name-First name-experience>
  2. Question #21 - <SR-19-Last name-First name-abstract>
  3. tem B - <SR19-Last name-First name-diploma>
  4. Item D - <SR19-Last name-First name-LOR-Prof''s Last name>
  5. Item E - <SR19-Last name-First name-invitation>
  6. Item F - <SR19-Last name-First name-proposal>
  7. Item G - <YA19-Last name-First name-photo>

III – Prior to applying, review application questions at the following link: Bureau for Academic Recognition and International Exchange.

IV - Complete the on-line application form at the Click Here to Apply button found below. All responses must be in English.

  • In question 14,  complete the line "Other" by indicating "research stay" 
  • In question 15, choose "I am applying for a scholarship from the government of the Republic of Poland".

V - Complete the Exchange to Poland Checklist and send with a check or money order in the amount of $50 (non-refundable application fee) to the Kosciuszko Foundation.

THE "Click here to apply" button is currently disabled.  the deadline to apply for scholarships for academic year Fall 2017 - Spring 2018 is closed.

The next opportunity to apply will be during the fall 2017 semester for scholarships towards

academic year fall 2018 - Spring 2019. 


When the on-line application period is closed:
Ask to be added to the "Studies & Research" mailing list.  We will add your e-mail address to our list for one year.  You will receive an e-mail notification when the new application cycle is open.

Scholarship Notification: 
Scholarship notifications are made in writing.  Results are usually available in the summer.  In case of delays in the decision making process, candidates will be advised via e-mail of the anticipated notification date. 

Changes in Contact information: 
If your contact information changes after application submission, please forward your new contact information together with dates of validity to Addy@thekf.org.
